OUTRIDERS CTR RESULTS
100 Mile House BC August 18, 2001
Ride Manager: Pat Hayward
Vet: Dr. Collin Mikkelson - Kamloops Vet Clinic
Location: 100 Mile House X-Country Ski Club Grounds, 100 Mile House
Earlier this year, I decided that it was time for me to have a break from the work and responsibilities of being a Ride Manager, and that this would be my "last" for awhile.
With this decision in mind, I geared myself towards creating a challenging experience for the horses and riders.
The course chosen was the X-Country ski trails used by the 100 Mile House Nordic Ski Club. These wide, well groomed trails offered a terrain of varying degrees of difficulty, coupled with an altitude of 3800 ft; at a pretty good pace - it was not meant to be "a walk in the park" type ride, and would definitely separate the "men from the boys"!
Fortunately, the weather came through as predicted - cloudy with a cooling trend, helping to keep the day pleasant. I had a small group of volunteers which included: John Whittle, Vernon (P&R), David Blair, Mission (Photographer), Fiona Griffiths, Kelowna (P&R), Trish Hoy, 100 Mile House (Ride Secretary), John Somerville, 108 Mile Ranch (Trail Blazer), Shelly Somerville, 108 Mile Ranch (buttmarker, timer & food) and Linda Donaldson, White Rock (timer). These people did a fine job in helping to keep things running.
Our veterinarian for the weekend was the tall and good-looking Dr. Collin Mikkelson from the Kamloops Vet Clinic. He dealt with 28 horses and riders in a very kind and efficient manner. Collin commented that he had a very enjoyable weekend.
At the end of the day, the pot-luck dinner and awards were held in the Nordic Ski Lodge. It was wonderful to have the use of that facility, as it made certain tasks much easier and provided us with a warm shelter when the rain & hail came down.
A lot of lovely prizes were handed out. Thank-you to the following BCCTRA members who generously donated prizes: Pamela Blair, Charles & Madeline Bateman, Trish Hoy, Helen Shuttleworth and John & Shelly Somerville.
A big thank you to all the riders who came up for a Cariboo Challenge. I hope that you all had a good weekend.
Sincerely,
Pat Hayward - Running Times Ranch
